The Full Story
EDUDOR was founded by Donal O Reilly in 2023. Donal is a teacher graduate of the University of Limerick in IRELAND. He devoted much of his early career to developing capacity in teachers through the Engineering Technology Teachers’ Association and Teacher Professional Networks, serving on the national executive for 10 years. Returning to his alma mater, the University of Limerick, he completed an MA in Education and developed an interest in action research and a curiosity about his own practice. Donal has worked in seven different post primary schools throughout his career, across all sectors, size and demographics. He is currently Deputy Principal at Killorglin Community College where he has served for seventeen years, one of which was in the role of acting Principal. Killorglin Community College is part of the Kerry ETB Educational organisation which gives him an insight in all aspects of education from primary to further education, as well as in his specialised field of post primary/secondary education. Donal places a strong focus on fostering a culture for the development of aspiring leaders within the school and building leadership capacity. During his time in school leadership, Donal was an associate with the Professional Development Service for Teachers in Ireland, involved in the design and delivery of the Tánaiste induction programme for newly appointed Deputy Principals and delivered modules for the PDST TóraÃocht programme for aspiring leaders in association with Maynooth University. Donal was also a mentor for the National Association for Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD) mentoring programme for newly appointed Deputy Principals. More recently, Donal has achieved a Certificate in Professional Coaching Practice and Ethics and a Diploma in Life and Leadership Coaching in 2022. He works as a freelance Educational & Life Coach as well as facilitating with Coach AcademyPLUS on their programme ‘Coaching Skills for School Leaders & Teachers’. Donal has worked with European SchoolNet and the Future Classroom Lab in Brussels delivering workshops and webinars. He also facilitates learning events for leaders and teachers across Europe and is a guest contributor on panel discussions, more recently hosting a workshop for the European School Heads Association (ESHA) annual conference. As an eTwinner and previous eTwinning ambassador and through his involvement in the Erasmus+ programme as a teacher and evaluator Donal has built an extensive teacher and leadership network across Europe which has enabled him to explore the various educational approaches in many European countries. He also works in supporting the work of his National Agency. Donal has worked with the Centre for School Leadership in Ireland in the role of leadership coordinator and Deputy Director Post Primary where his focus was on supporting teachers and school leaders at the various stages of their leadership journey. Through this work, Donal and the cross sectoral team have conducted research into the many aspects of school leadership which have led to the development of pilot programmes and innovative approaches to assist and support Irish teachers and school leaders. He and his colleagues collaborated closely to assist in the development of the inaugural Glasgow City mentoring programme for school leaders, an initiative involving a partnership between the City of Glasgow and University of Glasgow. Donal played a key part in the delivery of the training to the first group of school leaders participating in this programme, which is modelled off the Centre for School Leaderships mentoring for newly appointed principals in Ireland. In September 2023 Donal returned to Killorglin Community College as Deputy Principal where he continues his passion for teaching, learning and developing leadership.
